Thomas Roger Richardson, from Galashiels, was in the 6th Kings Own Scottish Borderers (KOSB). A more recent newspaper with a photo taken in Galashiels, that includes grandad, of the men enlisting and going off to the army. Galashiels is where Richardson's granddaughter was brought up, so the photo is very meaningful to the granddaughter. The contributor brought along a collection of photographs and keepsakes from friends in the Netherlands (mainly from Eindhoven) that Thomas met when the 6th KOSB stopped there for over a month during the war. For example, there is a photograph of his godchild who is from Eindhoven. Thomas worked as a dispatch rider, see his silk escape map. The contributor noted that Thomas' experience of war was "very lucky" as casualty rates from his battalion had been so high, as detailed in From Normandy to the Baltic (page 156). After Germany had been defeated, the 6th KOSB stationed up near Hamburg. The battalion were doing a lot of the admin, for example sending Cossaks back to the Russians. After the war, Thomas helped to write From Normandy to the Baltic, in Hamburg. Thomas remained fond of the countries that he had visited during the war (like the Netherlands and Germany) and he returned with his family, taking many camping holidays. The contributor noted that Richardson would only share the funny stories from his experiences (not the trauma). Thomas worked as a bank manager and was very organized. serious minded, and well read. Thomas' organizational skills meant that he kept all of these documentations of war together.
