This research aims to explain the historical events, background and facts of relations between Russia and the Dutch East Indies which are described in Tan Teng Kie's poetry Sair dari hal datengnja poetra makoeta Keradjaan Roes di Betawi, dan pegihnja and in Esper Ukhtomsky's diary entitled Eastern journey of His Imperial Majesty Tsarevich in 1890—1891. Researcher analyzed the poetry using the New Historicism approach. This research is an interpretive qualitative research with a parallel reading approach. The results of the research show that the poetry by Tan Teng Kie is generally consistent with Ukhtomsky's diary in telling the story of the arrival of the Russian crown prince to the Dutch East Indies in 1891. In the poetry the places that the Russian crown prince visited were (1) Batavia, (2) Bogor, (3) Garut, (4) Bekasi. The main aim of visiting was traveling and increasing knowledge. In the Dutch East Indies, the Russian crown prince and his entourage met with people from the Dutch East Indies government and army, such as the Governor General, generals, Dutch Indies ministers, and other nobles. In the poetry text, there are many short descriptions with general details that the poet witnessed. On the other hand, Ukhtomsky explains the historical events, background and facts supporting relations between Russia and the Dutch East Indies in more detail in his book entitled Eastern journey of His Imperial Majesty Tsarevich in 1890-1891.Penelitian ini bertujuan menjelaskan peristiwa sejarah, latar belakang, dan fakta pendukung relasi Rusia dan Hindia Belanda yang digambarkan dalam Sair dari hal datengnja poetra makoeta Keradjaan Roes di Betawi, dan pegihnja karya Tan Teng Kie dan dalam buku catatan harian Esper Ukhtomsky yang berjudul Eastern journey of His Imperial Majesty Tsarevich in 1890—1891.
