Tengku Mohamed Arifin - Envoy Extraordinary
Tengku Mohamed Arifin will always have a firm place both in Indonesian history, as one of the instigators of the Dutch-Atjeh war of 1873-1912, and in history, as one of the first accredited Malayan envoys to Europe. A biography of him would certainly help to explain the causes of these two notable events. It would also reveal much about the nature of Anglo-Malay relations in the late nineteenth century, and the difficulties of those who attempted to bridge the two worlds.
