Map showing division of property among the heirs of Cornelius Van Vorst, father of Jersey City Mayor, grandson of Revolutionary era patriot and descendant of original Dutch settler who all shared the same name. He died in 1852. This copy from 1873 was owned by Julia Van Vorst, a daughter; her properties are colored in. The depicted area was at one time known as Van Vorst Township. At the time the original map was made it had just been incorporated into Jersey City.
