Dutch Clandestine Printing, 1940-1945

This essay is based on a paper read to the Bibliographical Society on 21 April 1970. It was illustrated with over thirty slides made from particularly important or finely illustrated examples of clandestinely produced books and single sheets and was given in conjunction with an exhibition held at the British Museum of some two hundred items from the Museum's own collection. It does not attempt to present a historical or systematic account of this unique chapter in the history of printing. It endeavours to do no more than point out some of its special features.
