Letter from James Parker to Alden Partridge, 29 March 1824.
His brother, Cortland L. Parker, wishes to know whether Partridge admits "boys of Colour" to the Academy; Cortland is in Colombia and the boys he speaks of are "Mulattos," the children of a Spanish gentleman and a black woman; the boys write well, speak Spanish and Dutch, understand English and French, and are excellent musicians and dancers; they should be fitted to fill a government post; also asks after his son, William Parker. ; Transcription by Clarke Haywood.
