Stratospheric ozone is an important constituent of the Earth's atmosphere since it protects the biosphere from the most harmful ultraviolet radiations emitted by the sun. Some human activiites such as the use of man-mande chlorofluorocarbons have resulted in major destruction of ozone, in particular in the polar regions of the stratosphere.
