This is one of the most discussed subjects within the discipline of Biology in which the use of new approaches in the way of working with environmental education is justified, as it is an urgent and necessary subject due to the environmental degradation that the planet has been suffering. Much more than teaching in the classroom about its concepts, effects and solutions, it is necessary to make the student an effective and active participant in the practice of environmental conservation. In view of the above, the present study evaluated the engagement of high school students, from a public school in the interior of the state of Rio de Janeiro, on the environmental issue, based on practical experience in the production of recycled soap from used cooking oil, in which the students were the protagonists of each stage of the process, including the collection of oil, which yielded an enormous amount of product collected. The methodology included a didactic sequence developed during the school year, including lectures, research, production of exhibition material and application of a questionnaire. The latter, being applied before and after the interventions, allowing quantitative verification using statistical methods as a sampling technique and data treatment to organize, summarize and describe the important and significant aspects of the responses at the end of the insertion, with demonstration of the results in graphs .
