Forestry in its broadest sense is generally associated with regions with extensive forests and low population densities. The boreal forest of Canada, the Nordic Countries and Siberia, or the tropical rainforests of the Amazon come to mind. On the other hand, energy needs are generally greatest in densely-populated regions with significant levels of industrial activity, such as Japan, the eastern United States and western Europe.
