The importance of the surf zone for fish and brown shrimp in The Netherlands

Human activity in the North Sea is increasing, invloving more motorised cargo shipping, and rapidly expanding construction and operation of oil platforms and wind farms. In recent years underwater sand levees or sand suppletion near shore has been performed for coastal protection. The aim of this literature review was to provide the necessary information required for the design of a survey, investigating the role of the shallow coastal area and the potential newly created areas.
