Number 1 of a series of 4 prints ; King Philip receives two monks from the Netherlands who complain that they have been chased from their churches. This is illustrated in a small background scene that shows priests fleeing from their church where iconoclasts, aroused by Calvinist field preaching, are pulling down and destroying statues.
