John Finn writes from Holland to his father, James G. Finn, in St. Albans, Vermont; he mentions a letter he has received from Fille and asks about her and Jimmy. He comments on the weight he has lost since leaving the United States. ; John R. Finn's education at Norwich University was interrupted by World War II. During the war, he served in the 8th Armored Division of the U. S. Army in the European Theater and was awarded the Purple Heart after receiving a hand wound. He returned to Norwich University after the war and graduated with a BA degree in English in 1946.
