The subject of this study is the relationship of the lyric oeuvre of Pieter Corneliszoon Hooft (1581-1647), exemplified by the sonnets from his first published volume Emblemata Amatoria (1611), to the traditions of European renaissance lyric poetry, especially Petrarchism and mannerism, in particular on the level of literary topoi and the attitude to the sonnet form.
