The health status of the labour force in the Netherlands

This article examines the development of work disability and mortality indicators in the Netherlands. The author looks briefly at three factors that influence work disability and examines possible reasons for the marked increase in work disability, particularly permanent disability, between 1958 and 1978. In addition, the association between mortality and permanent work disability is analysed in the light of decreasing standardized mortality ratios among disabled and other workers.
