The oldest organization for psychology in the Netherlands: a shared first place. This article presents the history of the Dutch Godsdienstpsychologische Studievereeniging (GPSV, English: Study Association for the Psychology of Religion) that existed between 1920 and 1926, and that, among other things, organized the first international conference for psychology of religion, as an adjunct to the International Congress of Psychology, held in Groningen in 1926. It shows that the situation of the psychology of religion in the Netherlands is substantially different from the received view of its international history and also that the GPSV is quite representative for the situation of psychology in the first decades of the 20th century.
