Founding Father: Joseph Bech (1887-1975), Luxembourg

Representing the small country of Luxembourg, Bech supported the creation of the European Coal and Steel Company as well as increasing his country’s standing in Europe. He would also chair the Messina Conference, which would lead to the Treaty of Rome. His contributions to the EU showed that a small country can still play a major role in international affairs. ; https://uknowledge.uky.edu/world_europe_journey/1010/thumbnail.jpg
