Origin of the town of Hamburg, South Carolina, America : founded by Henry Schultz, July 2, 1821 : Act of the legislature of South Carolina, 1835, incorporating a company to open a direct trade between Hamburg, America, and Hamburg, the kingdoms of Prussia, Denmark, Holland, and Sweden, Europe, and an agent now here, sent by the governments of Hamburg and Prussia to consumate that trade : credentials, by men of high standing in favor of Schultz, supporting his views and sustaining his enterprise : convention of merchants in Augusta, for carrying into effect that direct trade beween the south of America and Europe : 28 millions of specie gone from the north to Europe : the greatness of the South over that of the North : Hamburg Specie Bank, followed by the dictates of a dozen and a half broken merchants, but the courts have directed otherwise.
