Native to southeastern Minnesota and other parts of North America. Taxonomy - Order: Papaverales; Family: Fumariaceae; Genus: Dicentra Bernh.; Species: Dicentra cucullaria (L.) Bernh. Collected from "moist leaf mould" near Winona, Winona County, Minnesota, on May 12, 1899. This botanical specimen was collected and included in Helen J. Monahan's final project for a Botany course in 1899 taught by John M. Holzinger at the Winona Normal School in Winona, Minnesota.
