John Locke and seventeenth-century Dutch medicine During his exile in Holland (1683-1688) the British philosopher John Locke (1632-1704) wrote two medical commonplace notebooks that are still unpublished. We give a brief description of Locke's medical activities and an overview of the content of these notebooks, and we sketch his relations to the Dutch medical world of his time
