During the Dutch colonial era, Jember was famous as a plantation area in Java. The large number of European private companies investing capital in Jember is also in line with the large number of Europeans working in Jember. In the midst of their busy lives in the plantation industry, Europeans often went on vacation to several places in Jember such as beaches, mountains and forests. The tourism activity of Europeans is supported by the existence of accommodation and transportation. Enthusiasm for Jember tourism seems to continue to grow rapidly, in fact it is not uncommon for tourism that was built during the colonial period to remain excellent today. Various sources such as advertisements, newspapers, photos and guidebooks can tell tourists' interesting impressions of Jember tourism. In order to dissect this problem, historical studies are needed using historical methods, which consist of heuristics, criticism, interpretation and historiography. Based on research conducted, it was found that traces of Jember tourism existed in the 14th century. However, the holiday culture in Jember began to emerge again in the 19th century after the arrival of European trading airlines in Jember. The combination of plantation areas and tourism seems to encourage infrastructure and economic development in the Jember region.
