Jester with a Lute

This painting was executed in around 1623-24, at the beginning of the brilliant period when the artist was influenced by the Utrecht Caravaggisti. It is an allusion to the theater world (old-fashioned costume, possibly 16th century) and may be an allegory about hearing and vanity (the vanity of music and its pleasures).
