As the daughter of the famous botanist and anatomist Frederik Ruysch, Rachel Ruysch had a trained eye for the differing materiality of individual plants and animals. She was famous in her own lifetime and her works were much sought-after by collectors such as the Elector Palatine Johann Wilhelm.
