Kingston, N.Y. Interior of the First Reformed Protestant Dutch Church, Organized 1659

Organized just one year after the Dutch settlers relocated and built the Stockade village now in Uptown, the Old Dutch Church on Wall and Main Street was the center of the community in Dutch Wiltwyck. The current Church was built by renowned architect Minard Lafever in 1852. The decision was a controversial one as the Church congregation was growing but the site chosen was on top of the graves of many families who were still in the Church. The Church still stands as a pillar of the community today with its commitment to social justice and equality.
