MS 28. Baker, William Howard (1852-1885). Letters, 1876. .209 linear ft.

These letters were written from William Howard Baker to his fiancée, Mary Morton Stephens, when he journeyed with his mother to Orange City in 1876 to visit his relatives, Maris and Harriet Peirce. The letters give an interesting outsider's view of the early history of Orange City. He described the Dutch colonists, the prairie, and a Dutch windmill.
