In times of Golden Age Amsterdam Spanish theatre made up a significant part of the City Theatre Hall’s repertoire. After a successful première, many of these plays remained in the programming plans of the Schouwburg for several following years and became ‘blockbusters’ in the repertoire. The present paper examines the cultural industry around the Schouwburg that was responsible for the introduction and production of these plays.
