Nanzi and Death told by Roy Colastica, recorded on video for the Anansi Masters project in Curacao. The storyteller Roy Colastica (or 'Rói' or 'Roland') was the presentor of the Anansi Masters storytelling event on Curacao. Due to his obligations as Master of Ceremony, he was not able to be interviewed after his story. Subject: Why nobody dies in Nanzi stories Description: Nanzi outwits his friend Death Content: Nanzi and Death are good friends. Therefore they can always count on each other. Between the two, there is only one important difference. While Nanzi is extremely poor, Death is rich and powerful and leads a life of luxury. Counting on their friendship, Nanzi asks Death for help when he and his family have nothing left to eat. Of course Death will help him. Only when Death is standing at the foot end of a bed, Nanzi is allowed to heal a sick person. When King is diagnosed with an incurable disease, everybody counts on Nanzi. Death however has other plans and tries to prevent Nanzi from healing the King. But Nanzi is simply Nanzi, and of course, he finds a way to even outwit Death.
