Background Microsporum audouinii (M. audouinii) is an anthropophilic dermatophyte responsible for tinea capitis in young children. Infections caused by this species are very contagious and are responsible for outbreaks in schools and communities. Different proteases are produced by dermatophytes to digest tissue keratin.
