Online help policy in FlandersSince the beginning of this century, clients and patients are looking online for help and care. Welfare services and health care organisations in Flanders therefore developed online support, first hesitatingly, but in the last five years more and more explicitly. The Flemish Government supports a number of online help initiatives – most of them after incidents (for example the growing suicide rate or sexual abuse) – but a policy framework for online help is still missing. For this reason the Flemish Secretary of Welfare, Healthcare and Family issued a project in order to prepare a new policy on Flemish online help. In collaboration with welfare services and healthcare organizations, Artevelde University College Ghent developed a policy framework for online help in Flanders. Four key issues are: a bottom-up approach to online help development; the development of education programmes on online help skills; the formal recognition of online help and the structural embedding of online help in welfare and healthcare organisations. Meanwhile, the Secretary found necessary political support to realise a Flemish online help policy plan including those key issues.Een beleidskader voor onlinehulp in VlaanderenSinds begin deze eeuw zoeken hulpvragers meer en meer online naar hulp en zorg. Welzijnswerk en gezondheidszorg ontwikkelden een onlinehulpaanbod. Eerst schoorvoetend, maar de laatste vijf jaar steeds uitdrukkelijker. De Vlaamse overheid ondersteunde hier en daar een onlinehulpinitiatief – vooral na maatschappelijke incidenten (zoals het groeiend zelfdodingscijfer of seksueel misbruik) – maar een globaal kader voor onlinehulpbeleid in Vlaanderen ontbrak. Daarom gaf de minister van Welzijn, Volksgezondheid en Gezin in juni 2013 een onderzoeksopdracht om beleidsaanbevelingen voor een Vlaams actieplan onlinehulp te formuleren.
