PHEGEA 49-4.DNA-bevestigde waarnemingen van de gele luzernevlinder, Colias hyale (Lepidoptera: Pieridae), voor Vlaanderen

A feature of the year 2018 was a striking migratory movement of species of Colias in the north of Flanders (Steeman et al ., 2019, Maes et al ., 2021). This involved not only Colias croceus (Geoffroy, 1785), the Clouded Yellow, but also pale yellow Colias specimens, of which, only two species are currently known in Belgium, Colias hyale (Linnaeus, 1758), the Pale Clouded Yellow and Colias alfacariensis Ribbe, 1905, the Berger's Clouded Yellow. Several specimens were netted during July and August 2018 and subjected to mtDNA barcoding-based identification. This is the only way to differentiate w... Mehr ...

This is the only way to differentiate with 100% certainty the adult stage of these extremely similar Colias species. With reservations, these are the first specimens of Colias hyale confirmed in this way for Flanders.
