Brass rood screen separating nave from chancel

Initially the rood screen was to separate laity from clergy, but while that function no longer remained, having recently spent a considerable sum for the screen, the Dutch were not about to destroy their new rood screen. Although the Reformation obviated the use of the chancel for the clergy, the space was still put to good use as a separate space for tables at which the congregation celebrated the Lord's supper (de ruimte voor het avondmaal).
