International audience ; Sea gigantism calls for land massification. The Betuwe Line and competing projects reflect this logic which tends to reorganize the hinterlands. In this perspective, we have shown that rail freight transport has many advantages that meet the relevant requirements of hinterland ports: massification, regularity, frequency and competition. Le cas de la Betuweroute (aux Pays-Bas) et les projets concurrents traduisent cette logique qui tend à réorganiser les hinterlands. Dans cette perspective, nous montrons que le transport ferroviaire de fret présente de nombreux avantages qui répondent de manière pertinente aux exigences des arrières ports : massification, régularité, fréquence et concurrence. La concurrence se trouve renforcée à la fois entre les ports (concurrence spatiale), mais aussi sur le rail (processus européen de libéralisation) ce qui favorise une plus grande compétitivité des hinterlands.
