The first arithmetic printed in English : An Introduction for to lerne to recken with the pen (St. Albans 1537, London 1539, and several other editions) seems to be a translation and compilation of Die Maniere and of another French anonymous work : La vraye Maniere pour pprendre a Chiffrer et compter par plumes et gacts, printed in Lyon between 1530 and 1537.
