Col. W.H. Thomas (Wil-Usdi')
This picture of William Holland Thomas (1805 - 1893) is from James Mooney's 'Myths of the Cherokee' (Washington: Government Printing Office, 1902). Thomas was a merchant and politician in western North Carolina as well as the agent, attorney, and adviser of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians from the 1830s into the 1860s. He also served as a colonel in the Civil War.
