Gambrel-Dutch style barn on Blue Heron Farm, Kittitas County, Washington, 2007

The Blue Heron Farm’s red Gambrel-Dutch style barn is located on the Thrall Road – Woodhouse Loop east of the Canyon Road south of Ellensburg, Washington. The typical valley barn was used for hay storage on the top floor and livestock on the ground floor. The very long ladder leaning against the side of the barn might have been used to reach the ventilating cupola on the top of the barn.
