This chapter seeks to analyse the role literary translators play in the selection, reception and image-building processes of Dutch-language translated literature into Italian. Drawing on interviews carried out with nine Italian literary translators, this study will try to shed some light not only on the important role translators play in the genesis of a translation ‐ which is why they could be considered cultural mediators ‐ but also on the interconnections between the selection, reception and image-building processes of translated literature.
