Four Orientals Seated under a Tree

An unusual Rembrandt drawing that is freely based on Mughal miniatures from India. It is well known that Persian and Indian miniatures were influenced by European prints, but the reverse process is less widely discussed. The detailing of the costume and turbans is typical of Rembrandt's better-known portraits.
