Phonological Contrast and Conflict in Dutch Vowels: Neurobiological and Psycholinguistic Evidence from Children and Adults

This dataset belongs to the dissertation by Nadine de Rue entitled ?Phonological Contrast and Conflict in Dutch vowels: Neurobiological and Psycholinguistic evidence from Children and Adults?. In the dissertation, the so-called Featurally Underspecified Lexicon model is tested against a variety of (experimental) data on the Dutch mid vowel system in children and adults. In this dissertation, experiments are conducted to answer the question how labiality and place features are represented in the Dutch vowel system. This is tested through perception experiments in adults and children assessing perceptual asymmetries in vowel changes or mispronunciations of vowels. In the dissertation, three experiments are included, respectively described in Chapter 2, 3 and 4 of the dissertation. The current dataset contains the data belonging to these three experiments: 1. An EEG experiment in Dutch adults ? belonging to chapter 2: Asymmetric processing of place and labiality: Electrophysiological evidence. The dataset contains: Raw data of EEG recordings for 18 adult native Dutch participants as well as MMN peak latency and amplitude data for Fz (central) electrode. It also contains the stimuli used and the files describing the analysis steps and SPSS output. 2. A cross-modal semantic priming experiment in Dutch adults ? belonging to Chapter 3: A cross-modal semantic priming study. The dataset contains raw reaction time data of 46 Dutch adults, pre- and post test familiarity and semantic similarity judgement data of the stimuli used, and the models run in JMP statistical software to run the analysis. 3. A preferential looking experiment in Dutch toddlers ? belonging to Chapter 4: Toddlers? processing of Dutch vowels: a mispronunciation paradigm. The dataset contains online coded looking behavior in a novel word learning variant of the IPLP (intermodal preferential looking paradigm). Each child is tested on both directions of change within one contrast. Data of 137 Dutch typically developing toddlers (age 37 months) is included. ...
