International audience ; Briga was an important roman small town at least 65 ha wide in the south-western province of Gallia Belgica . It was largely deserted in the last decades of the 3 rd c. AD, maybe in an organised way especially with several deposits that may mark the official closing of public monuments. During the Late Antiquity, human presence maintained only around the monument called Bâtiment Est , on a small area of ca. 0.25 ha. It was linked with the dimantling of the monumental complex, the recovery of buildings materials. Such an activity gradually declines and seems very tenuous after the middle of the 4 th c., even if it survives punctually until the 8 th or 9 th c. The crisis observed on this site in the 280’s is not limited to Briga : this phenomenon concerns during during Late Antiquity the french coast of the Channel from the Seine to the Bresle estuary, where the previous network of roman occupation (small towns and rural establishments) is disorganised by massive abandonment of settlements. ; Briga , vaste agglomération antique urbanisée du sud-ouest de la Gaule Belgique d’au moins 65 hectares, a été largement désertée dans les dernières décennies du III e s. apr. J.-C., un abandon qui paraît avoir été organisé avec notamment des dépôts marquant la fermeture des monuments publics. Durant l’Antiquité tardive, et en l’état actuel des données, une occupation très localisée s’est maintenue autour du Bâtiment Est, sur une superficie d’un quart d’hectare environ. Il s’agit désormais d’une présence humaine de faible envergure, pour partie (mais pas exclusivement semble-t-il) liée au démantèlement du centre public et à la récupération des matériaux. Cette présence humaine décline progressivement, et devient fort ténue à partir du milieu ou du troisième quart du IV e s., mais ses traces subsistent jusqu’au haut Moyen Âge dans ce même environnement.
