Aloe sabaea Schweinfurth (1894: 74). Aloidendron sabaeum (Schweinf.) Boatwr. & J.C.Manning in Manning et al. (2014: 67), syn. nov. Type:— YEMEN. Agara near Hodjela, 1 February 1889. [G.] Schweinfurth 1010; First-step lectotype (designated by Manning et al. 2014: 67): G00165399!, G without barcode! and G00165400!; isolectotype: K000794480!. The lectotype designated by Manning et al. (2014) consists of two specimens and three sheets: G00165399! and G without barcode! (together constituting one specimen), and G00165400! (constituting a separate specimen); second-step lectotype (designated here): G. Schweinfurth 1010 sub G00165400 (selected from the two specimens; see discussion below) (Isolectotypes: G00165399!, G without barcode!, K000794480!) Aloe gillilandii Reynolds (1962: 287). Type:— ARABIA. Dathina Plain, c. 130 miles NE of Aden, coll. Prof. H.B. Gilliland, Feb 1952, fl. Mbabane, Swaziland, 17 Sept 1961, H.B. Gilliland sub G.W. Reynolds 6364 (holotype in two sheets: PRE 0683942-1! and PRE 0683942-2!; isotype in two sheets: K000794482! and K000794483!). Note:—Gilliland is given as the collector on the K and PRE type sheets, as well as by Wood (1983). However, Reynolds (1962) gives himself as the collector of the specimens. Gilliland gave Reynolds a living plant in 1952, and the specimen was prepared by Reynolds in 1961 when the specimen eventually flowered in his garden. For the sake of clarity we cite the holotype as “ H.B. Gilliland sub G.W. Reynolds 6364 ”. Note on the lectotype of the name Aloe sabaea:— G. Schweinfurth 1010 held at Herb. G, consists of three sheets: 1) G00165399 (containing an inflorescence and envelope with a single seed capsule); 2) without barcode (containing an envelope with seed capsules), and 3) G00165400 (containing an inflorescence and envelope with seed capsules). The first two of these three sheets [G00165399 and without barcode] are kept together in their own specimen folder and, in accordance with Turland et al. (2018: 17–18, Article 8.3., Example 9), these two sheets are ...
