The consolidation of the textile industry in the Vallés Occidental area in a context of intensification of the migration flows from the rest of Catalonia and other Spanish cities, was followed by an increase of the so-called social vices. The accelerated growth of Terrassa and Sabadell produced a substantial increase of the prostitution that caused the outrage of broad sections of the population.
