The Orinoco Basin has the largest complex of wetlands in Colombia. The more than 346.000 km2, of wide plains and numerous wetlands are important to maintain ecological, social en economical processes. Due to its natural resources, topography, water provision, and land tenure regime, the region has been considered a center of economic development within the last decade. I assessed the vulnerability to climate change of sites that maintain several species or large numbers of waterbirds in the region. For the assessed periods (2010-2039 and 2020-2049), the monthly precipitation would have signifi... Mehr ...

For the assessed periods (2010-2039 and 2020-2049), the monthly precipitation would have significant changes and temperature would rise between 4 and 6%. I also found that sites would be medium to high resilient. The results of this analysis indicate the vulnerability of the sites to climate change would be low in 2010-2039 and medium in 2020-2049, precipitation was the variable that most influenced this result. The sites in the northeast of the Basin would be the most vulnerable to climate change due to the greatest variations of precipitation in that area.
