This article questions about the epiphany as a central literary resource of the novel The Tunnel, by the Argentine writer Ernesto Sabato. Those fragments are analyzed starting from a pictorial image: «Maternities», created by the protagonist Juan Pablo Castel, which triggers a «revelation of meaning» that changes the way painting and literature are thought.
