Summary Paroxysmal nocturnal haemoglobinuria (PNH) is characterized by intravascular haemolysis, nocturnal haemoglobinuria, thrombotic events, serious infections and bone marrow failure. This acquired disease, caused by a deficiency of glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) anchored proteins on the haematopoietic cells, is rare in children.
