Good quality registries are crucial because they provide insight into quality of care and opportunities for improvement. The NVU started in 2008 with the prostate cancer registry, in which data is recorded by healthcare professionals. The Netherlands Cancer Registry (NCR) also records data on prostate cancer since 1989. Data are recorded by data managers from the the Netherlands Comprehensive Cancer Organisation (IKNL) after consulting medical files.
