BACKGROUND: Control of Neisseria gonorrhoeae infection (gonorrhoea) depends on effective testing strategies. Anorectal testing in women is often done on indication of anal sex; however, anorectal infections are seen with and without anal exposure, possibly caused by autoinoculation.
