Ditylenchus destructor in the tubercle-seed imported from Netherlands ; Ditylenchus destructor em tubérculo-semente importado da Holanda

A serious pest of the potato, so far not yet known as occurring in Brazil, was found in a tuber of a lot of 3.000 boxes imported from Holland. It is Ditylenchus destructor, named in U.S.A. "the potato rot nematode" because it causes the decay of the tuber. In a careful study of the internal structure of this nematode the author carne to the conclusion that it is D. destructor. A serious pest of the potato, so far not yet known as occurring in Brazil, was found in a tuber of a lot of 3.000 boxes imported from Holland. It is Ditylenchus destructor, named in U.S.A. "the potato rot nematode" because it causes the decay of the tuber. In a careful study of the internal structure of this nematode the author carne to the conclusion that it is D. destructor. He observed under oil immersion lens 6 longitudinal striae of the lateral fields of this species, a very good differential characteristic from the species D. dipsaci. The attention of the Plant Quarantine Service is called to the danger arising from the possible occurrence of this parasite among the potato tubers imported from other countries.
