Man and a woman from Humboldt Bay

European navigators began traveling to the coastal areas of New Guinea in the 16th century, but it was not until 1858 that the Dutch Etna Expedition reached Humboldt Bay and Lake Sentani island (situated on the north coast of the island in the present-day Indonesian province of Papua). C.B.H. von Rosenberg was the draftsman of the Etna Expedition, and this drawing is from that trip.
