Social Gerontology in The Netherlands: A Review of Recent and Current Research
Research on aging in The Netherlands must be viewed against a background of social change, namely an increase in pension income and a sharp decrease in the number of elderly who live with others in the same household. Studies indicate that certain neighborhoods have come to be populated largely by the elderly, with fewer persons living in each house than formerly. In addition, large residential institutions have been built, but questions are now being raised about their value. Extramural care has been somewhat neglected but is now being improved.
