Assessment of hurricane vortex and boundary layer models for the development of wind and pressure profiles and fields

The main objective of this project is to evaluate existing models and methods for representing the vortex and wind and pressure structures of tropical cyclones (TCs). The initial assessment was performed by comparing TC vortex profiles with observed wind and pressure from atmospheric reanalysis data provided by the National Hurricane Center’s (NHC) hurricane database (HURDAT; Landsea & Franklin, 2013) and Colorado State University’s (CSU) extended best track (EBTRK; Demuth et al., 2006).
