Ascension of Christ

The Ascension was part of the Passion Altarpiece most likely commissioned by Laurentius von Gladbach, the prior of the Order of Crutched Friars (or Crosiers) in Cologne. The carved altarpiece, probably complete with a double pair of painted wings, with scenes from Christ's infancy, public life and Passion was intended for the main altar of the newly built chancel (in 1499) in the church belonging to the Kreuzbruderkloster.
